Nobody on earth can give back the amount of affection a Mother gives to her child. Mother’s Day is just a small gesture to make an extra-special effort to recognize her importance in our lives. In ancient times, festivals honouring mothers were often tied to Gods and Goddesses. Greeks and Romans used to observe the mother figure of their gods. Historians theorize people used to return to “mother” church, where it became a tradition and children got the day off to visit their mother. Later, in 16th Century, England started celebrating this tradition as “Mothering Sunday”. It was also known as “Refreshment Sunday”. 

Meanwhile, in the United States, three women played a significant role in establishing Mother’s Day’s tradition. They are Ann Reeves Jarvis, Julian Ward Howe, and Anna M. Jarvis. Therefore, people for centuries have realized how important a mother’s role is for a child and put effort to give it special recognition. A mother is the one who nurtures a child way before the child was born. In her womb, she took the child and provided her child with food, care, and unconditional love for the rest of her life. It’s a nine months-long journey for a mother while she has to face many challenges, sacrifices a lot, and finally be blessed with a child. Mother is the first guardian, teacher, carer, and a place of comfort for every child. Those who lost their mother at an early age are often seen as unfortunate children.

It is impossible to deny mothers’ importance, their presence and influence in society, for mothers built the future nation. A child learns what their mother can teach them before institutional education. Therefore, showing respect and putting some effort in respect to her love through a small celebration is worth it, which every mother deserves.
