Though poetry and music are like two different sides of a coin in literary terms, these are related in many perspectives. These are included into different genres of literature with their own features and charms. According to William Wordsworth, poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. So, one can easily express inner feelings through a poem. Poets all over the world write poems expressing their love, peace, views and even sometimes rebellion. Poetry is composed of metres and rhymes that provide pleasure to the readers. On the contrary, music is all about rhythm, melody and harmony. It is vocal and instrumental sounds that is pleasingly harmonious. It is categorized in many sections according to cultures and evolutions. However, despite their different styles and forms, these are still connected from the ancient period. Before the period of writing poems, people narrated poems and stories with rhythm so that they could easily remember that. Ballad, ode, sonnet are the best example as these are all lyrical poems. Similarly “Ramayan” is an epic which is narrated with musical harmony. Again, there are many poems which are sung as songs, such as, Robert Burn’Burns’s “A Red, Red Rose”, Edgar Allan Poe’s ” The Ravan”. 

Moreover, many rebel poetry by Kazi Nazrul Islam were sung as songs during our liberation war in 1971. Overall, in spite of being two different genres, poetry and music are always connected in expressing emotions and thoughts.
