Intro

It is 2021, and I’m pretty sure the name “Clash of clans” is a popular term among the gamers of 2015-2016. It is a mobile strategy game, and it was trendy back in the day. I remember spending hours and hours putting time and effort into advancing in the game. So now I’ll be sharing my experience as a mobile gamer and what impacts it had
on my life. What the game is about So first, let’s give you a little bit of insight into what Clash of clans is. 

It is a mobile strategy game. The Finnish Company founded it called Supercell. It generates around $500 million on average. Last year in 2019 generated $727 million in revenues. Can you imagine how popular a game has to be to develop such an amount of profit?. No doubt clash of clans is one of the best-grossing games of Google play store and Apple app store. Clash of clans is a freemium game, meaning some features are free, but as you progress throughout the game, you can buy gems(game currency) to upgrade and move faster. The game in itself is easy to understand. In the beginning, you are given a town hall at level 1. As you upgrade your town hall with gold and elixir(Game currencies)

you progress further into the game. You can join a team or group called “Clans” and chat with your clanmates on the game. It’s entertaining to chat with your clanmates. You form a bond beyond friendship with your clanmates. One of the critical aspects of this game is the clan wars. Before I go into that, let me tell you about the basics of this game. So you have a village, build barracks, and train your army just like any other strategy game. When you’re done teaching them, you take them into battle. You search the clash of clans map for other similar villages to attack. So if you’re a town hall 7, you will be matched against a town hall 7. This is called fair gameplay. More info on the gaming aspects In the clan wars, you would get 24 hours to set up your base, put all the defenses up front, making sure the opponent doesn’t 3 star your base.

It is fun once you get good at the game. I remember writing in the Facebook chat group of our clan all the strategies, techniques, and different types of attacks to do on the opponent’s base. We used to stay up late, sometimes even up to 1, or 2 am planning about the war ahead.

We used to learn new attacking strategies from famous gaming youtube channels like Galadon Gaming and Powerband. All the content that they posted about Clash of clans was a gem indeed. Some of the famous town hall nine attack strategies included good, wipe ,go wiki (Go meaning golem, ho means hog, and wi mean wizard and witch). I remember annihilating the opponents’ bases and consistently gaining three stars in almost all clan wars.

How the game mechanics Work

Let me dive into the game mechanics a little bit more. Starting with people with the highest authority to the lowest, there’s the Leader, Co-leader, elders, and lastly, members. When someone joins the clan, they become members. As they contribute to the family, they get promoted to elders and eventually Co-leaders. A Leader of a line has the highest authority. He can change clan description, search for a clan war, encourage others to elders or co-leaders, kick whoever misbehaves in the clan, and so forth. A co-leader can do all those as well, but elders cannot promote
others to co-leaders; only other fellow Co-leaders can do that.

Now time to talk about the troops used in the game. 

Firstly there are the barbarians and archers initially. The barbarians fight with a sword and the archers with a bow and arrow. They are the primary troops at the beginning of the game. As we progress further, we unlock new troops like goblin, giant, wizard, etc. These were just the ground troops, but there is more. There are air troops like the dragons, Minions, lava hounds, balloons, electro dragon, etc. The air troops are usually more.

Different strategies used in the game.

Powerful than the land troops because they have more hit points and can only be damaged via defensive buildings targeting air troops. My all-time favorite strategy was laloon, where I used Lava hounds along with balloons and minions. It was such an overpowered attack that 8/10 times I would be able to gain three stars from almost any town hall nine bases. My two and most favorite attack strategy was mass dragons, along with Lightning spells. Oh, I almost forgot that we could use spells which is a massive bonus in an offensive attack. Spells can cause damage or defense or cause other troops to spawn from the location where the spell is dropped like the bat spell. The lightning spell causes damage to troops or buildings where it is dropped. Other spells have other effects.

Let’s talk about the trophy system. 

You gain trophies when you destroy another player’s base. On average, around 25 trophies each battle. And you also become part of a league depending on the number of trophies you gain. Firstly you get to bronze league 0-799 trophies, then silver league at 800-1599, then gold at 1600-2000, crystal, masters, champions, titans and finally legend’s club at 5000 trophies or more. The higher the league you are in, the more victory bonus you get. For example, you get 4000 gold and elixir at bronze league and 340000 gold and elixir at legend’s league.

Conclusion

My experience as a mobile gamer was fun and exciting. Still, as someone who got addicted to gaming at a young age, I’d recommend the young generation stay away from gaming, especially when you’re a student, because I realized later on how much time I wasted playing games like clash of clans. It’s a highly addictive game; trust me, the time wasted playing such games is not worth it. After 5 years of not having any mobile games, I learned how much time I could have invested into doing other meaningful things like content writing or freelancing. Not only would I have made money, but my time would have been used doing something productive. Lastly, I would like to conclude that gaming isn’t bad; it’s far better than other harmful addictions like taking drugs or smoking. But if you plan on becoming a mobile gamer, I’d highly suggest you limit your gaming hours so that it doesn’t hamper your studies. Because sooner or later, you would realize that you could’ve used that time doing something much productive.
