Abstract
The global textile industry is a significant contributor to resource depletion and environmental degradation, highlighting an urgent need for sustainable practices to reduce its impact and foster a circular economy. This paper explores innovative sustainable practices in textile product management, emphasizing strategies to minimize environmental effects while advancing circularity. The adoption of eco-friendly materials, such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and lyocell, plays a crucial role in limiting ecological impact by reducing waste and conserving virgin resources. For instance, organic cotton production uses less water and fewer pesticides, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint. Moreover, closed-loop production systems that recycle and repurpose materials are essential for minimizing waste and reducing raw material demand. Chemical recycling technologies, for example, allow the transformation of old textiles into new fibers, creating a circular supply chain. Circular economy principles, such as designing for product durability and recyclability, further support waste reduction and product longevity. Water-efficient production processes, like waterless dyeing, also help cut water use and wastewater pollution, benefiting both environmental and cost-efficiency goals. Sustainable supply chain management is critical in driving responsible sourcing and transparency, enabling consumers to make informed choices and supporting ethical practices. Take-back programs encourage product returns for recycling, reducing overall waste. Leading companies like Patagonia and Eileen Fisher promote sustainability by encouraging customers to recycle or refurbish products, fostering awareness and responsible consumption. Ultimately, innovative sustainable practices in textile product management are vital for reducing environmental impact and advancing the circular economy. By prioritizing sustainable materials, optimizing production, designing with a full lifecycle approach, and promoting transparency and consumer education, the textile industry can achieve a meaningful shift toward sustainability, benefiting both the environment and meeting consumer demand for responsible products.
