A few days back, I was watching a Bollywood movie named Bhoot: the haunted ship part one. It is about a ghost ship called M.V Sea Bird. This name is from a fictional account again taken by fiction. However, the story is, it is enough for me to remind me of, few months dead ship working experience of mine. A dead ship is a ship that doesn’t possess the ability to sail and waiting to go into the scrapyard. A dead ship is also called a ghost ship. Though sometimes a ship with mystical incidents is also called a ghost ship. This article is about the conversion of a real-life story of a ghost ship into fiction. Before this, in brief, I am going to tell my story.

My Story

I worked on a dead ship for a few months. It had some lawsuit issues, that’s why it had been in the outer encourage for two years. When I joined, it was waiting to go into the scrapyard and, our work was to make it prepared for going. At the beginning of my contract, including me, there were only three people and, others would join a few days later. My duty was at night and, I had to do it alone. At night the environment of that two hundred meter ship used to become so haunting. There was a lot of cabin for the crew. But abandoned rooms were in a large number. When I used to pass by them, a haunted feeling used to haunt me. Every time I used to have a feeling like someone is calling me from behind, But I never saw a paranormal existence. Maybe the environment was the catalyst for my fear.

Today I want to end here. Because today, I don’t want to turn my reality into fiction. Now we will know about the most famous real-life ghost story and its conversion into fictional works. 

Mary Celeste: The Most Famous Real-Life Ghost Story

Mary Celeste, it’s the most famous case of missing person case in maritime history. It was a renowned British American ship. At Atlantic Ocean, On December 4th, 1872, a vessel named Dei Gratia found it unmanned and ready for its journey to Gibraltar. Including the captain, eight crew of the ship, the captain’s wife and, his two years old daughter were missing. Also, a lifeboat was missing though the weather was good and, all the crew had enough experience. It was only after one month of its launch and, there were six months rations in the ship. Ship’s goods and members’ valuable things were in their place, but there was no trace of a human being. This incident is one of the mysteries of all time in the world.

In the 147 years that have passed, the secret of this ghost ship has never been solved. An official investigation in Gibraltar failed to find the cause of their vanishing and, from then, rumor, wild guess, and many theories came. This story later inspired a lot of fictional works like movie, literature, historical fiction, etc.

Mary Celeste In Books

1. J.Habakuk Jephson’s Statement

Jephson’s statement is the first fictional work about Mary Celeste, published in January 1884. It is an early work of Arthur Conan Doyle. It is a short story that came within the sort of a first-person testimony by a survivor of Mary Celeste. This book did much to introduce Mary Celeste’s myths.

 

2.The Mary Celeste

 

A book by Brian Freemantle, published in 1979 and, In this suspense thriller Brian Freemantle depicts for the first time conversion of the real-life story of Mary Celeste into fiction on a big scale. He did it in the light of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, and who also wrote Jephson’s statement.

3.The Shadow Of The Mary Celeste

 

This book is a historical and adventure fiction, written by Richard Rees, published in 1995. This book is a two years research of the writer. 

It discloses the involvement of one of  New york’s grand criminals and the conspiracy of the church of Rome.

 

4.The Mary Celeste By Jane Yolen 

 

The publication was in October 1999. It is a mystery and historical fiction. In this, you can find the clues left behind and theories of what people thought happened on the ship.

5.Ghost Ship: Mysterious True Story Of Mary Celeste 

 

Brian Hicks, an award-winning journalist, tried his best to dig deep in the mystery and uncovered a logical answer. 

This book is different from other fictional books because it came with the theory of human error and bad luck. The publication of this travel literature was in 2004.

6.Mary Celeste: The Greatest Mystery Of The Sea

 

A book by Paul Begg, published in 2005, also searched for the facts behind this mystery.

7.The Mary Celeste Papers

 

The publication of this mystery book was on October 24th, 2012. Paul Gallimore wrote a well written, intelligent, thought-provoking, and also funny book.

He wrote a people’s book with a hugely original fusion of ideas. It is a noted fusion of the concepts of Mary Celeste and fiction.

The Ghost of the Mary Celeste is a mystery, horror fiction, and historical    fiction. The publication year was 2014.

Valerie Martin narrated a horror story in the light of Mary Celeste. This book is also the latest fiction from the reality-based framework.

1.Haunting Of The Mary Celeste

A dialogue from the movie, Haunting Of The Mary Celeste. Richeal is a researcher and a mother. These two things drove her towards the place where the Mary Celeste incident took place. 

This film is a combo of a scientific, geological, and supernatural theory. Vertical Entertainment released it on October 23rd, 2020.

    It is a recent attachment to the Mary Celeste fictional account.

2.The True Story Of The Mary Celeste

Smithsonian Channel telecasted a television movie named The True Story Of The Mary Celeste. It was in 2007 and also a famous one.

3. The Sea Hunters (2002–2006)

Episode: Mary Celeste (2002). A famous television series named the sea hunters had a saga in 2002 about Mary Celeste. 

4. Revealed (2002– )

 

Episode: The Mystery of the Mary Celeste (2008)

A United Kingdom Television-series revealed also aired an episode named the Mystery of the Mary Celeste in 2008.

It is a German adventure, drama television movie aired in 1972.

6.Phantom Ship

Its original title is The Mystery Of The Mary Celeste. The release date is October 15th, 1936(USA). 

It is a horror, drama, mystery film and also the oldest one in fictionalizing the story of Mary Celeste.

7.Mary Celeste(2019):

This 13 minutes short film is different from other Mary Celeste movies. A happy family vanishes and, their family and friends puzzles over the vanishing. It’s storyline is a different implementation of the real story. We can say from ocean to your neighborhood.

This ship, Benjamin Biggs(captain), Sarah(captains wife), Sophia(Captains daughter), and the other crews became a mysterious figure in reality and also in fiction. Till now, fictional works are in creation, and maybe it will go on about this mystery.
