Women empowerment means, women can take decisions and work outside the home on their own. In the past decade, Bangladesh has been a role model of empowering women. In 2010 there were around 16.2 million working women in Bangladesh. But it increased around 18.6 million from 2016-2017. As per the Global Gender Gap Report, Bangladesh got 47th position among 144 countries. Whereas India is in the 108 positions and Pakistan is in 143 positions.

 Our government and non-government sectors made this possible as they have a significant role in this. In 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina awarded with “Planet 50-50 Champion” by UN Women. She also got the “Agent of Change Award” by the Global Partnership Forum for her role in empowering women.

There are also some NGO’s working behind women empowerment. BRAC is working as empowering women by building a secure livelihood. BWF (Bangladesh Women’s Foundation) is another organization that is working for rural women throughout the country. The Asia Foundation helped a lot in this aspect. They have helped to increase women’s rights to women’s economic opportunities, their security, and women’s political participation in Bangladesh.

Now women in our country are working in different sectors. They are working as doctors, engineers, teachers, pilots, garments employees, and lots more. Some of them are working from home as freelancers. The most amazing part is they are doing online businesses and getting success from it.   Not only they are making themselves proud but also making Bangladesh proud in front of other countries. 

In conclusion, the efforts in women’s employment helped Bangladesh to get success in gender equality and the concept of women’s empowerment has a great contribution to this aspect.
