March 16th – the day when the wait begins. “It’s just for a few days I am sure,” I said to console myself, as I was not letting the thought of being trapped between the four walls of my home haunt me.

Instead, I dived into the work of my dissertation and thanked god secretly for giving me the opportunity to solely focus on my thesis. And I began to dream about the day of my graduation as I was sure that just like the movies things are going to get back to normal just when I need them to be. However, days, weeks, and even months passed by as I lived in fear and excitement, because I couldn’t wait for the glorious moment to arrive – to be a graduate, but time went by, the moment arrived and left, but nothing has changed apart from the longing hope for the wait to finally end. Time ticks faster than the metropolitan train system is being made on Bangladesh, but the longing hope for better days are yet to come.

No matter how badly I pray for the miseries to end, but it gets toppled up with a brand new sadness making things unbearable. The single ray of hope has slowly started to hide behind the dark clouds which makes it difficult to push me to keep on waiting for the better. My home doesn’t haunt me any longer, rather it feels like a safe harbor, but the wait for a new beginning seems to stretch farther, with no certainty for our lives to get any better. When will the wait end? Are things going to get better?

Will life get back to the way it was or this is going to be the new normal? I wait every day and try to find the answers, but there aren’t any sadly.
